Historic Achievement at Queens Sports Club

Wiaan Mulder of South Africa etched his name in cricket history by becoming the first player to score a triple century on his debut as Test captain at Queens Sports Club. He was on the verge of breaking Brian Lara's record for the most runs in a Test match, finishing the innings at an impressive 367* as South Africa declared at 626/5. Lara's record stands at 400*, which Mulder narrowly missed. Nevertheless, he became the ninth captain in Test history to surpass the 300-run mark, the first to do so since 2014, with no other players achieving this feat in the match.

Previously, Brendon McCullum from New Zealand held the record for the last triple century by a captain, scoring against India in Wellington. Mulder's achievement also places him as the first captain to score a triple hundred in an overseas Test since 1998, surpassing Indian captain Shubman Gill, who scored 269 and 161 in his recent Test at Edgbaston.
